The multi-state lottery, Mega Millions jackpot has reached $16 million for Friday night's drawing. After one ticket matched all six numbers for last Friday's drawing, the Mega Millions jackpot is now working it's way back up.

This past Tuesday night's results were; 14, 23, 43, 44, 54 and the Mega Ball 39. Although there were no jackpot winners, there were 3 second prizes of $250,000 given out on Tuesday.

Mega Millions began with it's first drawing in September 1996, it was called "The Big Game". Six States participated: Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, 
Michigan and Virginia. Drawings were held on Friday nights. After a successful first year, a Tuesday drawing was added in February 1998. The popular game did not become "Mega Millions" until 2002.

On March 6, 2007 Mega Millions made history by recording the highest jackpot winner ever, the winners, two, from Georgia and New Jersey split $390 million.

Approximately 50 cents of every dollar sold in the Mega Millions game goes back into the pot for prizes. About 15% of all sales is paid the retailers as commissions. The rest on average, goes to the member states in support of government services like education.
