The North Carolina lottery was created for days like these. Days when the lottery would claim that they have reached expectations for a fiscal year.

The North Carolina lottery announced today that they have met expected revenue numbers for the first time in the brief two year history of the lottery. This is only the second full year for the lottery, and they have reached the projected goal of $350 million.

They accomplished the feat thanks in large part to a $26 million transfer to a special education fund. The actual numbers from this past fiscal year were $350,012,385.

Members of the lottery
were pleased with the results from the past year. "I think what they've achieved is a level of satisfaction about what they are contributing to the state of North Carolina," said executive director of the lottery, Tom Shaheen.

With most states already having a state lottery, North Carolina was one of the last few to jump on board when they started theirs in March of 2006. The law passed in 2005 allowing the lottery. Arkansas looks to be the next state on pace for a lottery.

their governor has collected the necessary signatures to get it on the ballot in November. Then it will be up to voters to decide the fate of the lottery in Arkansas.
